Watch Fran Drescher’s electrifying speech as actors announce strike

This is what union strong looks like: Hundreds of thousands of actors joined writers for a strike that will bring movie and TV production to a virtual standstill. Actors and writers are demanding fairer wages as they all but disappeared during the move to online streaming platforms as well as job security assurances amid the rise of AI in entertainment.

Sag-Aftra president Fran Drescher — aka “The Nanny!” — gave an electrifying speech when announcing the strike:

“At some point you have to say no: We are not going to take this anymore. You cannot change the business model as much as it has changed and not change the contract too… Eventually, the people break down the gates of Versailles. And then it’s over. We’re at that moment right now.”
